The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has raised about $1 million for the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, which is expected to be the first hospital in Canada to feature fully-integrated "smart" technology systems.
“The total figure is $1 million this far out of the $2-million pledge,” spokesperson Hassaan Shahid told York Region Media. “This year about $200,000 was raised,” he added.
The pledge has been ongoing for three years, with contributions were raised by community members, including local businesses.
To garner further support for the hospital, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has organized the annual Run for Vaughan on Sep. 22 at North Maple Regional Park.
The event didn’t just have runners -- it also saw Vaughan’s Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua attending.
