Hundreds of Newmarket residents braved the elements the morning of Sept. 15 to take part in the annual Terry Fox Run.
They gathered at the Ray Twinney Complex where Starbucks was handing out coffees and COBS Bread was handing out pastries, and the sky was threatening rain.
Before the run kicked off, Newmarket Mayor John Taylor told the crowd that Terry Fox is a man Canadians are proud of.
Taylor also said people shouldn’t lose sight of what Terry was fighting for. He mentioned his father’s recent battle with stage 4 cancer, which has since been sent into remission thanks to new discoveries in cancer research.
“That’s what we are raising money for,” he said.
