Although tennis superstar has been living in Vaughan to be close to her training facility since she was 10, Mississauga will continue to insist on bragging rights and claiming the superstar to be a Mississauga girl at heart.

On September 11, the city passed a bylaw to name a street after Andreescu.

In a prior interview with a news outlet Mississauga mayor Bonnie Crombie said the city that Andreescu lived in until the age of 10 is “exhilarated and so thrilled and so very proud of this young woman.”

Crombie gushed on about Andreescu and has promised to give her keys to the city--an honour only shared by one of the city’s oldest residents, former mayor Hazel McCallion.

“We’re talking about a lot of plans, we’re talking about rallies, parades and street namings,” Crombie told the news outlet.

When asked about Crombie’s desire to honour her, Andreescu said that she has yet to touch base with the city directly but was thrilled with the idea of a rally or parade. But at the time of being asked, she was breathlessly awaiting a text message from Drake which she got later.

“I’ve just been seeing everything on social media. If that happens, that would be so crazy. I was not expecting any of this, but I can get used to it. It’s been really cool and I can’t thank everyone for all their support. You guys make me strive to be better and better,” she told reporters.

Meanwhile one wonders if Vaughan where she actually lives, and trains would also like to take some credit for her professional success is to be seen. Vaughan mayor seems to have some bigger priorities than renaming roads and lakes after the tennis superstar.
