York Region is constructing a new twinned sewer pipe or forcemain to move wastewater from the Newmarket pumping station on Bayview Parkway to the Aurora pumping station on St. John’s Sideroad.
Just the facts:
Location: Cane Parkway between William Roe Boulevard to Lorne Avenue;
Construction started in June 2019 and will take three years to complete;
The Cane Parkway work area is a receiving shaft, meaning that microtunnel machines drill underground from a north and south work area. There are no drill operations occurring at this site;
Microtunnel machines tunnel about 10 to 15 metres underground. Work is taking place at 10 work areas;
Cane Parkway is reduced to one lane in both northbound and southbound directions;
There is a new, temporary all-way stop at the Cane Parkway and William Roe Boulevard intersection;
Access to Fairy Lake, the trail network and parking lot on Cane Parkway are unaffected by construction; and
The budget for the overall forcemain twinning project is $100 million. About $13 million is for the Cane Parkway portion.
