Vaughan Public Libraries' Civic Centre Resource Library received the distinguished Ontario Library Association’s New Library Buildings Award at the OLA Annual Institute on the Library as Place event on July 10. The OLA jury described CCRL as “a cultural destination that inspires creativity, provides a welcoming place to gather and interact, and that has attracted new users enriching community life in the rapidly growing City of Vaughan.”

Vaughan Public Libraries is honoured to win this award, which is presented every three years to libraries in Ontario that have showcased excellence in the architectural design and planning of their libraries. Shelagh Paterson, executive director of OLA, described newly-built libraries today as “public places that instil a sense of community pride and are, at the same time, highly flexible and functional spaces.” CCRL’s award-winning architecture stands true to this as it continues to be a preferred location for many for its welcoming atmosphere, resources and versatile CREATE IT! Space.

People of all ages enjoy spending time in the various spaces CCRL offers, from the kid-friendly children’s area for reading books and participating in story-time, to study rooms and work spaces that teens and adults regularly use to study, work on group projects and hold meetings, to the green room, Oculus Rift, 3D printers, and recording studio where creators bring their creativity to form. The options are endless for everyone!

We hope you stop by CCRL to see this award-winning building and what it has to offer!
