Together with the region, East Gwillimbury is constructing paved bike lanes.
Just the Facts:
- The Green Lane multi-use path runs along the southside of Green Lane east of Bathurst Street to Yonge Street. The first phase, about 1.2 km, from Harvest Hills to Costco. Phase two spans from Costco to Yonge Street about 530 metre;
- The project includes constructing a paved pathway within the road along Green Lane between the curb and the sidewalk;
- The project is about 80 per cent complete. Work that remains includes adding signage, sodding and an imprinted asphalt strip to mark the edge of the path along the curb;
- The pathway connects the Dave Kerwin Trail in Newmarket to Peggy’s Wood Trail in East Gwillimbury and connects to on-road bike lanes along Woodspring Avenue;
- Future connections include continuing the trail along Green Lane to 2nd Concession and the East Gwillimbury GO Station;
- The cost for phase two was about $276,000, with about $138,00 funded through York Region’s Pedestrian and Cycling Municipal Partnership Program.
