Your lawns and gardens may be looking withered from the heat wave, but you’ll have to wait awhile longer before you can give them relief.

The Region of York is requesting residents and businesses restrict water use during the current heat warning.

Environment Canada’s heat event is expected continue for one more day.

That is creating “water system challenges” for the region, according to a statement released Friday.

York Region is requesting residents and businesses to voluntarily restrict water use, including non-essential indoor and outdoor water use, outdoor water use for irrigation and pool filling.

This will help ensure there is enough water in the system for an emergency, such as firefighting.

Environment Canada issues heat warnings when the humidex value is expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius or higher, or when the temperature is expected to reach levels ranging from 29 degrees to 40 degrees.

A hot and humid air mass is expected to remain in place Saturday, with temperatures near 30 and humidex values in the upper 30s and 40s.

A passage of a cold front this evening is expected to bring cooler temperatures and lower humidity for the rest of the weekend.
