Toronto Mayor John Tory is recuperating from apparently successful surgery to restructure an Achilles tendon but says he’ll be back on the job as soon as possible.

After the operation Wednesday at Humber River Hospital, Tory’s office said everything went as planned and the mayor, who last fall reinjured the tendon connecting ankle to heel, is expected to make a “speedy recovery” but won’t attend public events for the next 10 to 14 days.

Tory thanked medical staff including surgeon Dr. Sagar Desai. “I am determined to be back on my feet and visiting community events across the city as quickly as possible,” Tory said in a statement.
