York Region calls for province to hit the gas on Highway 400-404 Connecting Link
The proposed 16-kilometre, four-lane provincial highway would connect Highway 400 in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury to Highway 404 in the Town of East Gwillimbury

York Regional council is asking the Province of Ontario to accelerate three highway projects needed to allow more efficient travel and the development of lands designated for employment.
“We are working hard to put the proper infrastructure in place for our growing populations,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “These highways will ensure our communities continue to be places where people want to live and businesses want to invest.”
York Regional Council is asking the province to accelerate the following projects:
- GTA West Highway - 50 kilometre long four-to-six-lane provincial highway extending from Highway 400 in York Region to Highway 401 in Halton Region
- Highway 400-404 Connecting Link - proposed 16 kilometre, four-lane provincial highway to connect Highway 400 in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury to Highway 404 in the Town of East Gwillimbury
- Highway 404 Extension - proposed 39 kilometre, four-lane provincial highway to extend Highway 404 from Woodbine Avenue south of Ravenshoe Road in the Town of East Gwillimbury to Highway 12 in Durham Region
“The Province’s Growth Plan forecasts York Region to grow significantly in population and businesses over the next 20 years,” said Township of King Mayor Steve Pellegrini, Chair of the Region’s Transportation Services. “These highways will create opportunities for more business development, improved connectivity and additional travel options.”
All three highway projects are identified in York Region’s Transportation Master Plan, which assesses existing transportation system performance, forecasts future travel demand and defines actions and policies to address road, transit and active transportation needs in York Region to 2041.
