Windfall Ecology Centre and ClimateWise Business Network held the third annual York Region Sustainability Awards on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the KPMG building in Vaughan. The evening consisted of an award ceremony to celebrate the members of ClimateWise and the broader York Region community and their environmental achievements over the past year. Over 100 business and community leaders gathered to network and recognize the successes that ClimateWise members have achieved over the past year -- including the collective member commitment of reducing 5500 tonnes of CO2e emissions. The Keynote was delivered by Toby Heaps, CEO and co-founder of Corporate Knights. Heaps delivered a presentation on how optimism can overcome our current reality of climate inaction. In attendance was Mary Ng, federal minister of Small Business and Export Promotion. Minister Ng’s presence at the event further emphasized the importance of small businesses taking leadership on climate change mitigation. The winners were presented with a handcrafted award made of sustainability harvested maple.
