Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua released the following statement, after meeting with Master Thich Hue Minh at the Cam Lo Vuong Buddhist Community Temple on June 26:

“Yesterday, I was graciously welcomed to the Cam Lo Vuong Temple by Master Thich Hue Minh. Together, we toured the site of the new temple, which is anticipated to be completed at the end of this year.

“The Cam Lo Vuong Temple will continue to serve as a gathering place for worship, meditation and religious instruction as well as a sanctuary for Buddhist followers here in Vaughan and beyond our borders.

“In 2014, I was honoured to officiate the groundbreaking for the construction of the new main Buddha Hall for the Cam Lo Vuong Temple. When complete, the new space will be a welcome addition to the congregation and all followers of Buddha.

“Buddha says a generous heart, kind speech and a life of service and compassion are the things that renew humanity. The Cam Lo Vuong Temple welcomes people from all walks of life to come together and worship, and we are honoured that they have chosen the city of Vaughan as the place to build and expand their temple.

“In Vaughan, our diversity has become our strength.

“We have made outstanding progress on key city-building initiatives, which have been made possible through our collective commitment to respect one another and the many rich cultures and religions that flourish here.

“We value our role as an important centre for the spiritual, cultural, social and educational needs of Buddhist families in our region.

“Together, we celebrate important events and holidays, including Vesak, a celebration of the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, who promoted enlightenment and spreading love, harmony and peace.

“Vaughan remains committed to fostering diversity, understanding and mutual respect.

“Our goal is to continue to create a municipality that is welcoming, inclusive and caring. It is important to encourage an appreciation for many cultures and faiths and the many benefits they bring to our civic life.”
