Based on feedback, here are the top three nominations for our first #YorkRoadRage list.
We know there are other traffic trouble spots in York Region.
If your commute includes a stretch of road or an intersection that causes white-knuckle driving, a perilous walk or cycling terrors, let us know at newsroom@yrmg.com.
Keele Street: Vaughan -- Steeles Avenue to McNaughton Road
With construction every which way -- Hwy. 7 VivaNext bus rapidway construction; HOV lane construction along Keele Street and across Rutherford Road; intersection improvements at Langstaff; and road closures along Major Mackenzie Drive -- commuters, north and southbound, are funnelling on to Keele Street.
Davis Drive at Bathurst Street: Newmarket, King
Every day there’s a new turning lane, new traffic signal and new construction signs. The heavily travelled intersection -- Newmarket’s only direct route to Hwy. 400 -- has been a construction headache for well over a year for commuters driving into and out of the area. Good news, construction is scheduled to end in the coming months.
Hwy. 48: Georgina -- Ravenshoe Road to Lake Ridge Road
The number of large trucks barrelling along, the high level of cottage-camping-beach traffic, the single lane with highway speeds coupled with bending curves, steep hills and some iffy turns, this stretch of road is seen as dangerous and has a number of tragic and fatal crashes.
