An agreement between the Town of Newmarket and a local developer preserved a number of trees for local residents.
Less than a month ago, Jordanray Boulevard resident Edie Andrews spoke at a meeting of town council, asking them to step in to stop the removal of the mature trees on a property on the west side of Yonge Street, south of the hydro corridor and north of the Mulock Estate property.
Local residents received a letter from the town informing them the owner of the property intended to remove the trees located just past their backyards that were buffering them the Yonge Street construction.
Since that meeting, the developer agreed to provide additional buffering, totalling 15 metres from the rear property lines, on a temporary basis, in order to provide additional vegetative screening until the property is developed, the town confirmed.
Through a future development application, the landowner will be able to remove the remaining trees up to the property line but will have to endeavour to preserve existing vegetation where possible within two metres of the property line and enhance existing vegetation with new plantings to create a three-metre-wide landscaped buffer.
A letter was sent to Jordanray Boulevard residents informing them of the agreement.
