Part of the promenade and Sunset Beach Road will close so a Lake Wilcox boardwalk can be built.
JUST THE FACTS
What: The boardwalk is a suspended 130-meter pedestrian walkway built in Lake Wilcox that connects to the existing promenade. This is a complex project that includes drilling steel piles into the lake bed to support a steel structure that ultimately supports the boardwalk.
When: Construction will begin on June 15 and be completed by fall 2019, weather permitting.
How it affects you: Part of the promenade and Sunset Beach Road will be closed. For safety reasons, part of the site will be fenced off during construction.
Why: The boardwalk is part of the Lake Wilcox shoreline makeover. The master plan has features including: A waterfront promenade, a splash pad, playground, washrooms, parking lot, seating and picnic area, youth area and a redevelopment of the Canoe Club area, scheduled for 2021.
