A short stretch of 19th Avenue in Richmond Hill will be temporarily closed twice this month.

The road will be closed from 400 metres west of Leslie Street to Leslie Street starting Friday, June 7 at 9 p.m. until Monday, June 10 at 5 a.m. as well as Friday, June 14 at 9 p.m. to Monday, June 17 at 5 a.m.

Northbound and southbound traffic on Leslie Street will not be affected.

As with other construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. The current alternate dates are June 21 to June 24.

The work being done includes connecting 19th Avenue at Leslie Street, installing traffic signals, left turn lanes and street lights.

Crews will also be widening Leslie Street to four lanes from Elgin Mills Road to 19th Avenue, installing a multi-use path on the west side of Leslie Street and a sidewalk on the east side, and enhancing street lighting to encourage cycling and walking along regional roads.

Construction is happening in two sections. First: Improvements to Leslie Street and 19th Avenue are scheduled to be completed by summer 2019. Then, improvements and widening along Leslie Street from Elgin Mills Road to 19th Avenue are scheduled to begin later this year and are expected to be completed by 2020.
