Vaughan Fire & Rescue Service has made sure to don Pride colours to show support for LGBTQ+ youth.
In a photo shared with Torstar York Region, Fire Chief Deryn Rizzi was also seen wearing colour-pride insignia.
“We are proud of the progress we’ve made, and we’re also motivated by a strong sense of what is still to come,” Rizzi said.
“We believe diversity and inclusion strengthens us and we are committed to taking action to make sustainable progress; helping to serve and meet the needs of our increasingly diverse communities which we proudly serve.”
Rizzi said VFRS strives to “proactively raise awareness of diversity and inclusiveness in the fire service,” as well as promoting respect to “one another’s various values and characteristics such as race, nationality, religion, physical ability, gender, age, and sexual orientation.”
Vaughan fire service has also participated in the York Pride Parade that took place in Newmarket over the weekend.
