York Region Transit fares increasing July 1

The cost to ride the bus in York Region is set to rise July 1.

It's part of the region's three-year-fare strategy aimed at offsetting escalating costs.

Prices through the Presto card and YRT Pay app are increasing as follows:

• The adult fare will increase to $3.88 from $3.75

• The youth fare will increase to $3.03 from $3

• The senior and child fare will increase to $2.40 from $2.3

• The express fare will increase to $4.38 from $4.25

The standard cash fare, meanwhile, is jumping to $4.25 from $4, while the express cash fare jumps to $4.75 from $4.50.

Travellers are encouraged to take advantage of discounted fares offered through the Presto card and YRT pay app.

Previous fare increases were implemented on July 1, 2017 and July 1, 2018.
