How often have you seen artwork in a park?
JUST THE FACTS
Where: Lake Wilcox Park’s youth area in Richmond Hill (Bayview Avenue and Bayview Park Lane).
What: Art designed by Toronto-based artists Shalak Attack and Bruno Smoky, installed last fall. There are nine pieces (five panels, murals under two shade structures and two graffiti walls).
Why: The portraits are meant to capture the stages of life from birth to adulthood, suggesting that while our formative years are important, coming-of-age is a lifelong journey.
Who: "Shalak Attack" is a Canadian-Chilean artist. For more than a decade, she has participated in projects and exhibitions across the world. Shalak collaborates with her Brazilian street artist husband “Bruno Smoky.”
Youth Area Official Opening: Saturday, June 8, 1 to 4 p.m. (rain or shine); official welcome at 1:30 p.m. Enjoy DJ, breakdancing, beatboxing and interactive activities -- skateboarding, beach volleyball, fitness and basketball lessons, a Rubik's Cube competition, a video game lounge, skate shows and artist demonstration.
