WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? Georgina's West Park redevelopment

As part of the community engagement to revamp West Park, which was initially built in the 1980s, the town of Georgina has given the green light to upgrade the park which has reached the end of its useful life.

JUST THE FACTS:

-- West Park is located at Ravenshoe Road and Lake Drive;

-- Constructed is expected to begin in the fall and be completed by 2020;

-- When the redevelopment was announced, the price tag was set at about $9.7 million;

-- Once open, there will be four adults/senior level slo-pitch, softball diamonds and facilities including washrooms, storage and viewing stands;

-- Amenities also include a multi-use field and community event space that can accommodate a full-size adult soccer field, beach volleyball facilities, a multi-use court for basketball, pickleball and ball hockey, and a half basketball court;

-- Accessible junior and senior playgrounds, a water-play facility, primary and secondary trails, as well as paved parking for 245 vehicles are in the construction plans.
