THE RIDING:
Vaughan-Woodbridge was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries' redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect after dropping of the writs for the 2015 federal election.
The population of the Vaughan-Woodbridge area is 105,228, according to the 2016 Statistics Canada data. The 2016 data shows two main groups -- those below the age of 14 are estimated to be 18,340 in population, and 65 and over are about 17,400 in number.
THE RACE:
Liberal MP Francesco Sorbara was elected in 2015. He is seeking re-election.
BACKGROUND:
As a rookie candidate in 2015, Sorbara defeated embattled Conservative incumbent Julian Fantino by less than 3,000 votes. Sorbara -- a distant relative of former Liberal MPP Greg Sorbara -- spent more than $79,000 on his campaign, while Fantino spent $157,901.
There were 73,190 eligible voters in 2015.
