While a little less than half way through 2019, Georgina council is looking ahead to 2020.

Council has opted for an expedited budget schedule, meaning the town expects to approve its 2020 budget in December.

“We get better pricing,” Mayor Margaret Quirk said during a recent council meeting. “We’re first in line for tenders. Come Jan. 1, we know what our budget is.”

The town went through the same process back in 2016, she added.

The draft 2020 budget will be presented to council Oct. 23, with deliberations and final approval slated for Dec. 3 and 4.

Council also approved the option of a discretionary 1 per cent increase that will go toward capital reserves.

Once the 2020 budget is released in the fall, residents will have an opportunity to comment on it through a number of avenues, including a survey and public budget chats.
