Montreal-based Enviroplast Inc. has received up to $3 million from FedDev Ontario to build a recycling facility using first-in-Canada technology in Vaughan, MP Francesco Sorbara announced Wednesday, May 22.

“This investment in Enviroplast Inc. will help strengthen the local manufacturing industry, and lead to the creation of 30 full-time jobs in Vaughan,” said Sorbara, who represents the riding of Vaughan--Woodbridge.

“The Government of Canada is proud to support a company that specializes in innovative clean technology, focused on sustainability and reducing plastic waste in our landfills.”

The new Vaughan facility is expected to be operational by the spring of 2020, with new recycling lines capable of handling 11,000 metric tons of plastic annually.

The $3 million is a repayable contribution toward Enviroplast’s total project cost of $10 million. This project, meanwhile, will leverage up to $7 million in other private investment.

The company, which processes and transforms over 2,000 metric tons of recyclable materials each month, is now making its entry into Ontario.

To back its expansion, FedDev Ontario’s contribution will enable the company to adopt an environmentally-friendly recycling technology that produces no waste or gas emission, and minimizes water usage in production.

As a result, the company will expand and broaden its capacity to recycle different types of plastics for sale in North America and international markets.

“The opening of this new facility will support growth for the clean technology and manufacturing sectors, boosting economic growth and creating good, middle-class jobs for Canadians," Navdeep Bains, minister of innovation, science and economic development and minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, said.

Established in 1991, Enviroplast is a sustainable plastics recycler that collects, processes and transforms post-industrial plastics into high-quality, food grade resin that is reused in new products.

CEO Mathieu Séguin dubbed plastics as “one of our society’s biggest waste problems.”

“With FedDev Ontario support, Enviroplast Inc. is able to bring its new innovative recycling technology to Vaughan, providing Ontario communities with a long-term solution to post-consumer plastic film that will help to reduce raw material consumption and waste generation.”
