The Olive Branch for Children (TOBFC) recently held their 14th Annual Fundraising Gala supporting community outreach in Tanzania. Founded by former Vaughan resident, Deborah McCracken-Nangereke, TOBFC is a community-led charitable grass roots organization that operates in the Mbarali District of Tanzania. The initiative began in 2005, after what started as an adventure trip for its founder turned into a passion for helping remote communities thrive through education and empowerment. In addition to adopting 55 children, Deborah and TOBFC have helped to assess, design and build programs to help the vulnerable take care of their primary needs. Since inception a total of 28 Montessori schools have been built, and mobile medical clinics, libraries, construction projects and the Kubuni Innovation and Creativity centre (amongst other things) have all been established. TOBFC has touched 65,000 people in over 40 communities. The gala was a lovely evening that included orchestral music provided by three musicians, a four-course dinner, open bar and incredible entertainment. An overview of the charity’s activities this past year also took place along with a silent auction and raffle with all proceeds supporting the ongoing operations of The Olive Branch for Children.
