The building at 300 Atkinson Ave. in Thornhill, near Bathurst and Centre streets, is a nursery and an elementary school.

Kamin Education Centre is a campus of Associated Hebrew Schools built in 1995. In May 2017, the school’s board of directors announced it would be selling the building.

The plan: Vaughan received an application to build 14 townhouse blocks, including six blocks of back-to-back townhouses. The development would contain 125 townhouses, 203 underground parking spaces and 25 surface spaces. It would also include a place of worship in the southeast corner.

Why: This branch of the school is moving south, in part because of a decline in enrolment said to be caused by the impact of rising home prices and increased cost of living.

Future: Starting in September, the Kamin branch will operate out of the Hurwich Education Centre in the Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue area of Toronto.
