The town’s former director of operations and infrastructure made the 2018 Sunshine List of public servants earning over $100,000 despite vacating the post after only two months into the year.

Dan Pisani is listed as earning $174,670.08 plus $467.10 in taxable benefits, ranking him the top wage earner behind only CAO Winanne Grant ($236,165.03 + $1,410.72) and Deputy CAO Dave Reddon (192,397.82 + $1,242.66) on the list, which was released March 27 by the province under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act commonly referred to as the Sunshine List.

Pisani’s sudden departure from the town after close to seven years with the municipality was announced Feb. 16, 2018 and went with no comment from the town other than wishing him well in his future endeavours.

As to why taxpayers foot almost the entire salary for two months of work, town communications manager Tanya Thompson said both former and current employee information -- with the exception of salary disclosure -- is confidential.

Sixty-five positions in Georgina made the cut, up from 57 the previous year.

Rounding out the top five positions was Fire Chief Ron Jenkins ($163,839.16 + $7,446.26 in taxable benefits) and John Armstrong ($166,716), who replaced Pisani in the director's position after his departure.

Close to a quarter of the town's 263 permanent full-time employees, including library staff, last year made the list.

In total, there were 568 employees on the town's payroll last year -- including 42 permanent part-time positions, 60 volunteer fire fighters and close to 50 per cent of that number was classified as temporary, seasonal, sessional and casual labour.
