Some people are questioning Carol Chan's signage they deem "misleading."

Chan is one of the candidates running in the April 25 byelection to appoint a trustee for ward 1 and 2 in Vaughan following the resignation of the predecessor.

Chan’s sign, which says “re-elect,” is drawing the ire of people since she was never elected in Vaughan but served as a trustee in Richmond Hill from 2010 till 2018. Chan also participated in the election for the regional and local councillor of York Region role but didn’t win.

In an email to York Region Media, longtime Vaughan resident Pat Scaramuzzo said, “Carol Chan is misrepresenting the public as her signage and her website, Facebook, Instagram state clearly to 're-elect' her? Say what? A bi-election (sic) is for an open seat ... means the incumbent is gonzo.”

How is it possible that a candidate for #YRDSB Ward 1 & 2 is allowed to put up misleading signs? Carol Chan is not the incumbent for this ward. #BadForm @YRDSB @City_of_Vaughan #VaughanPoli pic.twitter.com/XMDv6NhvZY

Councillor Marilyn Iafrate from Vaughan herself dubbed the signage as “misleading.”

“How can you be re-elected when you've never been elected as trustee for wards 1 and 2?” she said.
