Spring weather finally seems to be here to stay and you know what that means -- road construction season.

York Region is spending $339 million this year to expand and maintain regional arterial roads and transit as part of a $2.8 billion investment in the regional transportation network over the next 10 years.

Projects include road reconstruction and widening, major bridge replacements and upgrades, intersection upgrades and improvements to enhance traffic operations, pavement repair, preservation and rehabilitation and transit terminal, station and bus stop repairs and improvements.

“York Region travellers want to move around more efficiently,” Regional Chair Wayne Emmerson said in a statement.

“This investment reflects regional council’s ongoing commitment to building a transportation network that provides commuters with better access to where they need and want to go.”
