Services in King Township got a major boost.

King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce announced a $725,000 one-time investment to King Township from the provincial government to improve King's service delivery and efficiency.

“This new funding will make a meaningful difference, along with ongoing investments in local roads, highways, and GO stations across King-Vaughan,” Lecce said.

Lecce made the announcement at King’s new municipal office, joined by Steve Clark, minister of municipal affairs and housing, and King Township Mayor Steve Pellegrini.

“This funding will help small and rural municipalities, like King, improve how they deliver services and reduce the ongoing costs of providing those services,” Minister Steve Clark said. "I look forward to continuing to work together with our municipal partners to help people and businesses in communities across our province thrive."

The funding comes as part of a one-time investment in small and rural municipalities across Ontario, aimed to provide the resources necessary for municipalities to modernize and streamline the delivery of its services to residents.

A total of $200 million one-time funding is being allocated to 405 municipalities across the province based on the number of households in a municipality and whether the municipality is urban or rural.

“It’s heartening to see the province recognize that smaller, rural communities like King face pressures to plan and manage transformation,” said Pellegrini who thanked the provincial government for the major investment.

There is a long list of projects in King that could use the funds, such as road improvement and broadband infrastructure.

“Unlike larger communities, King relies heavily on residential taxpayers to help pay for programs and services. Funding from other levels of government helps us to keep the impacts on taxpayers as low as possible,” the mayor said.

After the announcement, Minister Clark took a tour at the new municipal building with Lecce, Pellegrini, Coun. Debbie Schaefer as well as Coun. Jordan Cescolini.
