If improving your garden or gardening skills is on your to do list, here are five ideas for you:

  1. Seedy Saturday, Richmond Hill Public Library

When: April 6, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Event: Richmond Hill Garden & Horticultural Society volunteers are at the library’s central branch answering gardening questions.
Location: The library’s central branch, 1 Atkinson St.

2. Gardening for the Birds, Kortright Centre for Conservation, Vaughan

When: April 10, 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Event: This workshop will help you create a backyard refuge, focusing on attracting wildlife and using specific plants.
Location: Kortright Centre for Conservation (9550 Pine Valley Dr., Woodbridge)
Cost: $19 + HST

3. Pruning and Easter Tree Workshop -- Kate’s Garden, Markham

When: Monday, April 15, 1 to 3 p.m.
Event: Learn how and when to properly prune flowering shrubs and how to force these shrubs’ branches into early bloom. Make and decorate an Easter egg tree branch.
Location: Kate’s Garden, 227 Main St. Markham North Unit 3

4. Georgina Garden Centre, Podcast

When: Première episode Feb. 25
Event: Hosted by Shannon, The Garden Girl who introduces the new podcast alongside, not-so-green-thumb Katie. Together, they cover gardening-related topics.

5. Junior Gardeners, East Gwillimbury Garden & Horticultural Society

When: Third Tuesday monthly (February to October, except July and August), 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Event: Aspiring gardeners six to sixteen years old meet with their leaders, usually at Mount Albert Community Centre, to learn about plants and nature. They enjoy gardening projects, including maintaining a flower bed at the Millennium Garden on King Street.
