Treasury Board President Jane Philpott, a close friend of Jody Wilson-Raybould, has resigned from Justin Trudeau’s cabinet over the prime minister’s handling of the SNC-Lavalin affair.
Philpott, MP for Markham-Stouffville and trusted minister who had just been elevated to oversee government spending, made the announcement in a letter published on her website.
“Unfortunately, the evidence of efforts by politicians and/or officials to pressure the former Attorney General to intervene in the criminal case involving SNC-
Lavalin, and the evidence as to the content of those efforts have raised serious concerns for me,” she wrote.
“Those concerns have been augmented by the views expressed by my constituents and other Canadians.”
Philpott said she intends to continue to serve as Liberal MP for Markham-Stouffville.
