Metroland Media, York Region photographer Steve Somerville alerted us that he saw “some earth movers at the ready in a lot between two plazas on Yonge Street, just south of Elgin Mills on the west side (between 10670 and 10720 Yonge). Big drain pipes, lots of dirt piles, etc.” So, we contacted The Town of Richmond Hill and the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation.
JUST THE FACTS
Location: Just south of Elgin Mills on the west side (between 10670 and 10720 Yonge St., Richmond Hill)
From the Town of Richmond Hill: The property is being used by the constructor of the VivaNext Rapidway project on Yonge Street. They are using this area to expedite their work, by allowing for materials and equipment to be easily transported to and from their work zones along Yonge Street.
York Region Rapid Transit Corporation:
Depending on the material (stones, steel beams, water utility pipes, etc.), they will all be used as part of the project to relocate utilities, widen the roadway and to build the stations. The materials will be used during construction of bus lanes.
