Crews began doing geotechnical testing on and near Yonge Street in Markham March 13 as part of the planning, design and engineering phase of the Yonge subway extension. Work is being done at locations along Yonge Street and some side streets from Finch Avenue to Highway 7. It was predicted this work would last about two weeks with crews working each day 7 a.m. -- 7 p.m. just east of Yonge Street.
Just the facts
- Location: On Yonge Street at Highland Park Boulevard, on Yonge Street south of Morgan Avenue and south of Royal Orchard Boulevard and on Kirk Drive.
- Closure: There will be a northbound curb lane closure on Yonge through the work area during work hours.
- The work: Crews will use a drill rig to bore holes and extract soil samples. Each borehole will take approximately two weeks to complete.
At the end of each work day, the roadway will be restored.
- Other disruptions: There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
- Background: The planned Yonge subway extension is a project from Toronto into Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill.
It extends 7.4 kilometres north from Toronto's Finch Station to the Richmond Hill/Langstaff gateway urban growth centre at Highway 7.
