Brace yourself for an event, dubbed not suitable for those under 14, to tackle a heavy topic: right-wing extremism in schools.

The community forum --hosted by York Region District School Board (YRDSB) at Newmarket High School on April 8 --will inform and educate parents and guardians of how white supremacists use certain techniques to start recruiting at schools.

The event will have featured presentations from Elizabeth Moore, who will talk about her past experience when she was introduced to white supremacy as an ideology during her high school days in Scarborough. Moore left an extremist group in 1995, and has since contributed to numerous anti-racist education and arts initiatives.

Two other presentations will include Evan Balgord, the executive director of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network --an organization devoted to investigative journalism focused on white supremacists --as well as Bernie M. Farber, a social justice writer and chair of the Canadian Anti-Hate Network.

When: April 8, from 7:00 to 9 p.m.

Where: Newmarket High School --505 Pickering Crescent

Registration closes end of day April 1, 2019 or at capacity, whichever is sooner.
