New 20,000 square-foot building set to open in early summer

Community Living Central York is an organization dedicated to providing daily support for adults with developmental disabilities for more than 60 years.
Just the Facts:
- The building is located at the corner of Oak and Penrose streets in Newmarket. The former address, 460 Oak St., will be now be 575 Penrose St.;
- Construction started in April 2018 and is expected to be complete by April 2019, with some exterior work and landscaping to follow in the spring;
- The building is expected to open in early summer;
- Currently, work is being done on interior finishes and exterior cladding, followed by the installation of furniture and other equipment;
- The construction budget is $6.5 million, which is part of the three-year, $5 million Happy Hearts campaign to redevelop and expand the existing building. The Happy Hearts campaign is 90 per cent funded;
- Community Living also receives funding from the region, Ontario Trillium Foundation and United Way;
- Currently there are more than 2,300 people on the waitlist for day support programs for people with developmental disabilities, which can mean a three- to eight-year wait for support;
- The new redeveloped 20,000 square-foot building triples the space for day support programming, which includes adding evening and weekend programs and increasing support to more than 1,000 adults weekly.
