Vaughan is holding a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 5 to gather people’s input on upcoming development proposals; including a golf course and residential development near the proposed Kirby Go station.

The meeting will also gather information on a proposal to extend a sports village.

To make the Copper Creek Golf Course a reality, the owner of the land, located on the east side of Regional Road 27, south of Kirby Road, wants to redesignate about 8.05 hectares from "natural areas and countryside" to "community areas."

The owner is also seeking to redesignate the western 40.76 hectares portion to "low-rise residential" and "mid-rise mixed-use" with "park" and "school" overlays as opposed to its “open space", "natural areas" and "agricultural."

The block, bounded by Jane Street to the west, Keele Street to the east, Teston Road to the south, and Kirby Road to the north, has an area of about 400 hectares, and is primarily rural.

Block 27 has long been identified as one of two new community areas expected to be urbanized, according to Vaughan's Official Plan.

Vaughan Coun. Marilyn Iafrate was gearing to move ahead with the proposed Kirby GO station since the area is expected to be urbanized in line with the provincial plan.

The public input will also be heard on building a residential development of about 200 detached residential units and a public park at Kirby 27.

However, the proposal mentions that the eastern portion of where the residential units are intended to be built, will retain its "natural areas" and "greenbelt plan area" designation.

The public will also be consulted on the proposed Sports Village expansion located at 2600 Rutherford Rd. The input will be on whether to expand the Sports Village into a privately held, publicly accessible multi-use community space.
