Winter will be winding down soon enough, so now is the time to go hit the trails for some cross-country skiing around York Region.
Here are five places worth checking out:
Cold Creek Conservation Area
Cold Creek has seven kilometres of trails and offers three designated trails for cross country skiers ranging in skill from beginning to expert. This green space is noted to be ecologically diverse and sustainable natural area. Equipment for winter activities can be rented on-site.

Kortright Centre for Conservation
This 325-hectacre, forested property in the heart of Vaughan, has more than 16 kilometres of ungroomed trails some of which are suitable for cross-country skiing.

Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve
A 600-hectare swath of green space in Richmond Hill is home to 15 kilometres of trails, some of which can be skied on. You’ll see wetlands, kettle lakes and forests teeming with wildlife and unique plant species.

Seneca College King Campus
Seneca College, King Campus is a very close spot for a quick ski/snowfall on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Trails are groomed after a heavy snowfall. This is an easy ski for those with gear and a bit of time. Parking fees apply on campus. For free access, park on Keele Street or Dufferin Street and enter through the Oak Ridges Trail Association trail.

York Regional Forest
With more than 15 tracts and 120 kilometres of trails in Georgina, East Gwillimbury, King and Whitchurch-Stouffville, cross-country skiers have loads of options, at no cost. Note trails are unmarked.
