Vince’s Market, a staple grocer in East Gwillimbury, is expanding into a new building at the southeast corner of Leslie Street and Far Avenue. The award-winning grocer started in the late 1950s as an open-air fruit market in the same location.
- The current retail building is located at 19101 Leslie St., but the expansion also includes 3 and 5 Sharon Blvd. to the east;
- Construction of new Vince’s location, on the east end of the property, started in fall 2019 and is expected to be complete by late fall 2019;
- Following construction of the new store, work will start on the existing store to convert it into new retail space, which is expected to be complete by winter 2020;
- The last phase is a retail building at the corner that will be completed in the winter 2020-2021;
- Entrance into the construction zone is from the parking lot only;
- The new 14,000 square-foot grocery store will have a beer and cider cave as well as a community kitchen space;
- The plan includes five buildings in the plaza, including a new commercial unit located at the Mount Albert Road and Leslie Street intersection;
- All businesses on the property and the walkway between Sharon Boulevard and Parnham Crescent will remain open during construction;
- Close to 50 more parking spaces will be added to the plaza as all as e-charging stations for electric and hybrid cars;
Construction equipment and site trailer will be stored on the vacant town lands to the south of the plaza. Once complete, those lands will be restored.
