Nothing says Chinese New Year better than a traditional lion dance.

Hundreds of merrymakers gathered at CF Markville in Markham on Feb. 9 for a two-hour traditional Chinese performance to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The show opened with a festive lion dance where four young performers brought to life two dazzling lions and delivered their new year wishes to the audience.

Organized by Cadillac Fairview, the annual event also featured a live traditional Chinese band, the performance of the Chinese face mask changing, as well as a live painting of Peppa Pig to the mark the Year of the Pig.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti joined the god of fortune to hand out red envelopes to the audience at the end of the show, which represents good luck in Chinese culture.

Council members and Bill Pang, MPP for Markham-Unionville, attended the event.
