Bruno Lisi is president of the Etobicoke-based Lisi Mechanical Contractors Ltd., a construction company that has nothing to do with snow removal.

But as York Region residents on Tuesday, Jan. 29, woke up to piles of heavy snow covering their driveways and sidewalks, Lisi makes a visit to Vaughan to help some senior family friends plow their snow.

Lisi, however, ended up helping “five or six homes,” who were “struggling” with snow.

“I felt so sorry,” Lisi told York Region Media. “There was so much snow and I tried to help them out. One person was 85 years old. I felt so sorry for her.”

York Region Media learned about this heartwarming gesture from Cathy Romano, a senior who is currently scheduling an appointment for hip surgery.

“My neighbours and I were shovelling the snow. It was me and my husband, my neighbour next door and their neighbour, the seniors across the street and another neighbour three doors away," Romano said. "So when we were out, we were flabbergasted at the amount of snow.”

But Romano succumbed to the task as they started “slowly shovelling.”

“But there is no way we can get it done. Our neighbour next door, Linda, had a stroke a few months ago. The husband has a knee problem and the lady across the street is in her late 70s,” she added.

But there was some light at the end of the tunnel when they noticed Lisi’s truck helping a homeowner in the neighbourhood. This prompted Romano to approach Lisi, not caring if she had to pay $50 or $60 for his snowplowing services.

“He did all of our driveways and didn’t want anything,” she said.

“I don’t know, I am a nice guy and I want to help out,” Lisi said. “Everyone should help seniors.”
