Kung Hei Fat Choi! If you want to enjoy a Chinese New Year Celebration, there are plenty of events from which to choose.
1) Saturday Feb. 2, Richmond Hill
The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts presents a Chinese New Year Celebration. Presented in partnership with the Chinese Ai Yue Philharmonic Arts Chorus and the Richmond Hill Concert Band, this evening of music and celebration starts at 8 p.m.
2) Sunday, Feb. 3, Vaughan
The 2019 City of Vaughan Lunar New Year celebration will be celebrated at Vaughan City Hall. Held in partnership with the Federation of Chinese Canadians in Vaughan, the celebration includes a lion dance, eye-dotting ceremony and other cultural performances. Event runs 1:30 to 4 p.m.
3) Saturday, Feb. 9, Markham
MP Bob Saroya and MPP Billy Pang invite you to celebrate the 2019 Lunar New Year. Join the celebration with live entertainment, food and drinks. 3 -- 5 p.m. Angus Glen Community Centre and Library, 3990 Major MacKenzie Dr. E. All ages and free.
4) Sun. Feb. 10, Markham
The Federation of Chinese Canadians in Markham hosts an event with the City of Markham, TD Bank, and Canada Post at the Markham Civic Centre. Guests can enjoy Chinese folk dances, a lion dance performance, Chinese calligraphy, and traditional music. 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
5) Sat, 16 Feb., Unionville
Make your own Pig Hero paper lantern, then take a money bath and hit the “gong” for good fortune. Free admission. Visit https://lunarfest.com/ for more. Presented in partnership with the Asian-Canadian Special Events Association. at 216 Main St., Unionville.
