On December 7 in the courtyard at Vaughan City Hall, Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, Minister Michael Tibollo and City Council hosted the countdown to lighting the Vaughan Christmas Tree. Guests experienced much excitement as the outdoor Christmas tree came to life! Everyone celebrated the season with free festive music, activities, holiday goodies and photos with Santa. The City of Vaughan Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has been a tradition since 2011. The tree stands at 40 feet tall, it has a total of 35,000 LED lights and weighs a total of 4,500 pounds. The City of Vaughan Christmas tree is from Drysdale’s Tree Farm, a sustainable tree farm in Barrie, ON. An exciting announcement was made by Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua during the ceremony. This year, in support on the 9th annual City of Vaughan Toy Drive in support of the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish, Tony Romanelli and family of the RCC Group of Companies, stepped forward to once again remind us of the Spirit of Generosity that shapes our city. It was proud to announce that they donated 5,500 toys, valued at $105,000 - the highest contribution ever made to the City’s Toy Drive by a single donor!
