Re: An open letter to King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce, Dec. 14.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

My responsibility as an elected member of provincial parliament is to ensure the next generation is not burdened by the reckless spending of the current one. Regrettably, after 15 years of Liberal reign, Ontario is the most indebted sub-sovereign government on the planet, with roughly $347 billion in debt, equalling to approximately $24,000 per person. An inherited legacy by the former Liberal government has caused us to pay more to service the debt than on skills training or community safety. In fact, it represents the fourth largest line item in the budget.

We must change this trajectory with a focus on reducing waste in government, while also protecting our front line services and delivering historic investments in mental health and long-term care.

Since forming government just six months ago, we have already saved Ontarians $3.2 billion, provided $2.7 billion in tax relief, and reduced the planned deficit by $500 million.

We have done this all while our government makes progress on the construction of the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, the northern extension of the 427, expanded parking and upgrades at all three GO stations in King-Vaughan (Maple, Rutherford and King City), new long-term care beds, and various other local investments that are creating jobs and opportunities for our small business community.

This PC government was elected with a mandate to make the tough decisions so that we can put our province on a pathway to prosperity. I will continue to serve energetically with one mandate: Delivering results for our community.
