A 16-year-old boy is dead and four others are injured after a vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree in Vaughan on Tuesday night.

“The road has a fairly sharp turn south and then it corrects back,” Staff Sgt. Andrew Bell told reporters at the scene. “That would be speculating as to why the accident happened but I’m sure that may have been an impact factor.”

Const. Andy Pattenden says five teens between the ages of 15 and 17 were in the vehicle at the time.

While the 17-year-old girl driving the vehicle and a 16-year-old boy sustained minor injuries, Pattenden says three others were more badly hurt.

Pattenden says a 16-year-old girl sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and a 15-year-old boy is in hospital with critical injuries.

Four ambulances and two special response units were sent by York paramedics.
