City of Vaughan raises more than $86K for United Way campaign

Employees have raised more than $1 million since 1994

Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua has pledged $15,000 to the United Way Campaign, bringing the total amount of money raised to $86,087 by City of Vaughan’s staff on Jan. 22.

A cheque for that total amount was presented to Samantha Cook, the manager of corporate donor relations at the United Way Greater Toronto, during a special presentation at committee of the whole at the city.

"As is often the case with life, sometimes people face setbacks for reasons beyond their control. This is where a community needs to step in and step up,” said Bevilacqua.

“Our staff are truly committed to making a positive difference to the lives of others."

This brings the money raised by the City of Vaughan to more than $1 million through its annual United Way Campaigns since 1994.

Each year, the City of Vaughan has a volunteer-led employee campaign to support United Way Greater Toronto. Fundraising events in 2018 included a fire-truck pull, CN Tower Climb, silent auctions, pool tournament, candygram and bake sales, and Halloween events.
