Five people are injured, including two in life-threatening condition, after a vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree in Vaughan Tuesday night.
York Regional police responded to a call shortly before midnight on Tuesday for a collision on King Vaughan Rd., near Mill Rd. Staff Sgt. Andrew Bell told reporters at the scene the vehicle, a 2009 KIA sportage, was travelling westbound and “for unknown reasons, lost control of the vehicle,” hitting a tree.
Police said while there are no immediate signs of impairment, there is an ongoing investigation for dangerous driving.
Of five people inside the vehicle during the crash, two of them are in life-threatening condition, three with minor injuries. All of them were identified as youths by police. Four transporting ambulances and two special response units were sent by York paramedics.
“The road has a fairly sharp turn south and then it corrects back,” said Bell. “That would be speculating as to why the accident happened but I’m sure that may have been an impact factor.”
Police said while there are no immediate signs of impairment, there is an ongoing investigation for dangerous driving.
King Vaughan Rd. will be closed both ways up to Kipling Ave. during the investigation.
