Each year, at this time, I am further reminded of all that we have accomplished for our citizens. I look forward to the promise of 2019 with renewed hope and optimism.

In 2018, Vaughan celebrated unprecedented growth and innovation. We marked the one-year anniversary of the opening of the TTC subway extension, providing our residents with even greater access to opportunities for learning, employment and connecting more often with loved ones.

Cranes continue to tower over the site of our future Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, Canada’s first hospital with fully integrated smart technology systems, scheduled to open in 2020.

Our trend-setting downtown--the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre--continues rising from the ground. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is being built and planned as an inclusive and welcoming downtown.

We know, through our Citizen Satisfaction Survey, that 97 per cent of our residents say life is good in Vaughan and give high satisfaction rates for our many city services. In 2019, and throughout this next term, I remain committed to carrying forward this momentum.

Today, we see a Vaughan that is praised as a nationally acclaimed leader in city-building. I am determined to deliver to our city what the residents deserve and I remain committed to bringing York Region’s first university to Vaughan during this term of office.

I also recently announced the creation of six task forces--to be chaired by members of council--to shape our collective work throughout the new term of council.

However, this is just the beginning. For our city, the best is yet to come. To the citizens of Vaughan, I wish you a prosperous new year. Together, we will ensure our city remains one of the best places to live.
