Taxpayers will find out on Wednesday if they are getting their money’s worth when it comes to a number of provincial programs and agencies.
When the Auditor General tables her annual report at noon it will contain 15 value-for-money audits conducted this year.
Among those audits will be Metrolinx LRT construction and infrastructure planning, Ontario Works, the Darlington nuclear generation station refurbishment and Waterfront Toronto.
Bonnie Lysyk looked at and assessed whether Metrolinx has systems and processes in place to plan and deliver the Eglinton Crosstown and other light rail transit projects in a “cost-effective and timely manner.” She also looked at the proposed new GO stations in Vaughan and Scarborough.
The Vaughan Kirby Station is planned in the riding of former Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca, while the Lawrence East project in Scarborough is part of Mayor John Tory’s SmartTrack plan.
Since the Doug Ford government came into power in Ontario just a few months ago, the projects under the microscope will largely be based on the previous Liberal government’s spending.
During his election campaign, Ford often used last year’s Auditor General report as ammunition to attack the Liberals.
