GO Transit is adding more parking spaces to the East Gwillimbury GO station, making it easier for commuters to take public transit.
Just the Facts:
- The East Gwillimbury GO Train and Bus Station is located at 845 Green Lane, east of Main Street/2nd Concession and first opened in November 2004.
- Construction of the new parking spaces started in March 2018 and was recently completed ahead of schedule.
- GO Transit created an additional 250 parking spaces, bringing the total to 914 parking spaces.
- There are plans to build an additional 114 spaces in 2019.
- The budget for the increased number of parking spaces is $4.9 million, which also includes the additional spaces coming in 2019.
- All that remains is to build up a retaining wall near the new parking lot. That construction work is weather dependent and is scheduled to begin in early spring 2019. The new parking lot will not be affected by the last bit of construction work.
- Amenities at the East Gwillimbury GO Station include: ticket vending machines; a kiss and ride passenger drop off area; reserved parking spots commuters can rent on a monthly basis; designated carpool parking spots; heated bus shelters; and public wi-fi access.
- As of October, about 790 commuters begin their GO trip at the East Gwililmbury station on a weekday, including those commuting by bus or train going either north or south.
