On October 25, Vaughan and Mackenzie Health dignitaries gathered at the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital for the official topping off ceremony with the Honourable Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. The topping off ceremony signified that the new Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital has reached the highest point of its construction. It was a special opportunity to be part of history. Thousands of tokens were signed by members of the York Region community including donors, hospital staff, physicians, leadership and government officials. The tokens were then poured into one of the hospital’s last concrete slabs. Present that afternoon was Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure; the Honourable Michael Tibollo, MPP Vaughan-Woodbridge, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services; and the Honourable Maurizio Bevilacqua, Mayor of Vaughan. Now two months ahead of schedule, the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital will be the first new hospital to be built in York Region in more than 30 years and the first-ever hospital in the City of Vaughan.
