The Pefferlaw Ice Pad (PIP) officially opened for skating under its new ‘roof’ Dec. 8.

The project, which at last count had a total budget just under $800,000 and original completion date of August 2017, received $315,000 in federal grant money under the Canada 150 Infrastructure program.

It’s been a long three-year haul since the project was first tabled, stalling on numerous occasions --most notably after construction tenders came in almost double the $786,225 approved budget last summer.

The majority of the project was completed in March, with the ribbon cut on the new facility in August.

Regular skating schedules run-up until Dec. 21.

From Monday to Friday, parents and tots skate from 8 to 10 a.m.; public skating runs from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m., senior skating runs from noon to 2 p.m.; and shinny hockey from 5 to 10 p.m.

Parents and tots skate from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, with public skating reserved from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and shinny hockey from 3 to 10 p.m.

Holiday schedules take effect Dec. 21 and run until Jan. 6.
